Youth in ClassThe Co-op Education Project- Healthy Solutions extended its co-op model to include the education of youth on all aspects of agriculture. The youth-centered program includes information on how food is grown, the nutritional value foods, and its source. We focus on teaching the youth not only how to run the co-op but the importance of the co-op model in the community. It allows youth to learn and then teach others the importance the source of their food.
Deep Roots Program educates African American students about options for furthering their education while working in green industries around agriculture. It provides them on the farm summer training, scholarship preparation training and education for the 1890 Scholars grant, and internship opportunities. The program also provides a summer enrichment program that allows youth to work directly with African American Farmers to hands on experience with Agriculture, History of Agriculture in the African American Community, and farming. The Program also works to bridge the generational gap and to teach youth today that agriculture is more than just working in dirt, it is preserving a heritage, while feeding you community, and is the original green job Farming.
Healthy East Future Leader - The HELFP provided healthy snacks and education to students. Additionally, the HELFP sought to teach these students about growing and healthy eating in order to combat the surge in childhood obesity. Students were educated about agriculture, the food supply chain, and entrepreneurship. Its goal is to educate youth about food and its supply chain and to help youth aspire to own healthy food enterprises.
After - School and Summer Programs- Healthy Solutions knows that children need resources year round. So we offer after- school education and summer enrichment programs that teach youth about nutrition, healthy food production, agriculture, math, science, and reading.
